Location & Facilities
The Taylor Statten Camps uses the Camp Ahmek facility for its Outdoor Education programs. The Camp Ahmek site has road access and is a mere 40 min drive from Huntsville.
The site offers over two kilometers of beach and waterfront. Our rustic cabins and stands of white and red pine allow you to get away from the every day noise and strapping’s of a city and step into the calm clean air the outdoors can provide.
We offer both indoor and outdoor facilities such as a full canoe dock with the largest fleet of cedar canvas canoes in North America, kilometers of hiking and walking trails, a large ball field, a yurt and more. Our historic dining hall is complete with two large stone fireplaces, a stage and a corner devoted to Tom Thomson and his work.
We have a newly designed and completed washroom and shower facility that runs on solar power with hot water showers and clean drinking water, located in the main camp.
Water fountains are located in the main camp area as well as the ball diamond, offering clean and cold drinking water to keep you hydrated during your activities. Not near the fountain? Don’t worry – all of our tap water is safe to drink.
Camp Ahmek is a traditional camp that has been located on the south shore of Canoe Lake since 1921. Our cabins are rustic but comfortable – single camp beds and built-in shelving adorns the wooden cabins. They hold up to seven campers and the cabins are in clusters in different areas of the camp. There is no electricity in our camper cabins so its storytelling by flashlight at night! All cabins are within a quick walk to an outhouse or the large washroom facility.
Camp Ahmek is a long-standing member of the Ontario Camping Association and is in compliance with the organization’s safety standards. We offer a comfortable and secure ratio of staff to participants and monitor the site at night. We are located 40 min away from the Huntsville Hospital. All of our staff are trained in First Aid and CPR, and there is an AED on site.
