Maintenance and Office Positions

  • General Carpenter and Assistant Head of Maintenance

    Wanted: Maintenance Staff- General Carpenter/Assistant Head of Maintenance

    The Taylor Statten Camps is Canada’s oldest fourth generational family-run traditional summer camp. We are located on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park. The camp is made up of Camp Wapomeo for Girls and Camp Ahmek for Boys. Our camper’s age varies from 6 – 16.

    Maintenance Staff- General Carpenter and Assistant Head of Maintenance

    Job description:

    Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo have a roster of maintenance staff reporting to the Head of Maintenance. The team is responsible for the start-up, shutdown and operation of the physical facilities on Canoe Lake. This process begins in late April and ends in October each year. This position is responsible for all of the general carpentry work needed at camp. This includes but is not limited to:

    • Door and window repair; screen repair; porch and deck building and repair
    • Asphalt shingling
    • Cabin construction
    • Stair building
    • Dock building and repair- floating and crib style; crib repair
    • Construction of wood shelving and other camp craft supplies
    • Supervision of small groups of university aged staff during spring and fall work crews

    In addition, general maintenance duties are also required from time to time and include tasks like cleaning, garbage removal etc.

    Plumbing skills are also considered an asset as well as small engine maintenance (oil changes, troubleshooting etc).

    Must be able to operate small motor boats (training can occur at camp).

    Qualifications/Job Requirements:

    • 3 plus years of experience in general carpentry
    • Pleasure Craft Operating License (boat license)
    • Driver’s ‘G’ License

    Canoe building and repair is also a skillset that this position may train on.

    All positions include free room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

    This is an annually recurring 6 to 7 month contract position with satisfactory performance. We are looking for someone who enjoys outdoor maintenance/carpentry type work in the Algonquin Park setting.

    Dates of employment: mid April through to late October  inclusive. (Occasionally later work into November is available some years).

Senior Staff

  • Transportation Coordinator- Ahmek Office Summer Position

    Wanted: Transportation Coordinator

    Are you interested in spending your summers on a lake in Algonquin Park? Do you have a passion for the outdoors and working with young people? If so, then you should come be a part of the Taylor Statten Camps full time office staff team!

    The Taylor Statten Camps are Canada’s oldest family-run traditional summer camp. We are located on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park for the months of June through September. And our Head Office in the other months is located at 59 Hoyle Ave in Toronto. The camp is made up of Camp Wapomeo for Girls and Camp Ahmek for Boys. Our camper’s range from age 6 to 16.

    We are currently looking for a Transportation Coordinator.

    We are currently seeking an outgoing, creative and organized individual to join the team. This position revolves primarily around working under the direction of our Office Administrator and Parent and Logistics Coordinator. The camp requires an enormous amount of bussing both for camper and staff intake and outtake to Montreal and Toronto and Pearson Airport. But also busses for drop off and pickup of canoe trips across Ontario.

    In addition, this role will assist with general camp office functions as well as some programming duties for the day to day function of the camp operation. This role completes an important part of the TSC summer office team.

      Please note this position requires you to work our Algonquin Park, Canoe Lake office from mid-June to the end of August. Free accommodation including private living and meals are included while working in Algonquin Park.

    Qualifications: 

    • Enrolled in a College or University degree is preferred but not mandatory
    • Well-organized and detail-oriented
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience with Excel and Word at at a minimum
    • Someone who excels in multi-tasking and managing deadlines
    • A team player who is able to work collaboratively across departments
    • Willing and able to live in the Algonquin Park setting for 10 weeks

    Compensation varies depending on experience.

Counselling Staff

  • Junior Counsellors (formerly CITs)

    Are you interested in spending your summer on a lake in Algonquin Park? Do you have a passion for the outdoors? If so, then you should come be a part of the Taylor Statten Camps staff team!

    The Taylor Statten Camps are Canada’s oldest fourth generational family-run traditional summer camp. We are located on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park. The camp is made up of Camp Wapomeo for Girls and Camp Ahmek for Boys. Our camper’s age varies from 6 – 16.

     Job description:

    Junior Counsellors must be 17 years old by the end of the calendar year. They must be keen to learn the art of being a camp counsellor, guide, and/or an activity head. You shadow counsellors and are assigned to a cabin group. You’ll be working with campers between the ages of 7 and 12. Junior Counsellors with an interest in a particular program may spend a month shadowing the Activity Head of their choice. Junior Counsellors at both camps also have the opportunity to help lead canoe trips. Paddling and canoeing tripping experience is an asset. A current Bronze Cross is required for this position as well as Emergency First Aid and CPR however we facilitate getting those certifications at camp if interested. Please refer to the tab on our website that also outlines the Ontario High School Credit Course that the camp is offering as part of this position in 2024 for the first time!

    Qualifications/Job Requirements:

    • Bronze Cross or Greater & CPR “B”- this can be done AT CAMP
    • Emergency First Aid or Greater- this will be done with Bronze Cross

    Junior Counsellors spend the full two months at camp (occasionally one month or 6 week contracts are considered) All positions include room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

     

  • Alumni Trip Leaders and TOCO Counsellors !

    Wanted: Alumni Canoe Trip Leaders &

    TOCO Counsellors

    Are you interested in coming back to TSC and Canoe Lake for a few days this summer? Do you have a passion for the outdoors and working with young people? If so, then you should come back and pass on some of your valuable knowledge and expertise to our youngest campers!

    We often get TSC Alumni interested in coming back for our TOCO (Try Out Campers) sessions which are 4 days in length (3 nights) and happen 4 times a summer. Check out our website under Rates and Dates for details.

     We also send out short trips for our youngest sections- overnights, 3 day and 5 day trips. If you are interested in any of those options instead of TOCO sessions, we would also love to have you onboard. It’s a great chance for you to re-live some of the best aspects of TSC and Algonquin Park and the young people you have the chance to influence will benefit remarkably from your guidance.

     You role usually consists of acting as one of two Counsellors if doing TOCO sessions and as a Canoe Trip guide if doing some of our shorter canoe trips in the younger sections.

  • Driver

    Drivers

    Camp: Ahmek 

    We are currently seeking one Driver

    Job description:

    You will be asked to drive into Huntsville a few times a week for business-related reasons, generally to shop at various local stores for supplies for camp. And then whenever there is an emergency or an expected pick-up or drop-off situation you will be assigned to travel wherever needed. Often the Driver goes up to Temagami and to other remote area to either pick up campers or drop supplies to our out-trips. The Driver needs to be licensed to drive in Ontario, and that license must be clear of any driving-related incidents. The driver needs to be able to drive well and safely under pressure.

    • Able to operate each vehicle that may be driven.(generally an SUV type vehicle)
    • Coordinate diving schedule with office staff regarding town runs, evacuations.
    • Teach and monitor proper use of seat-belts, safe loading and unloading, proper behaviour in the vehicle, and other aspects of vehicle safety.
    • Clean and maintain vehicles.
    • Search for the various items on shopping lists as assigned by the camp administrator
    • Check vehicles before and after each trip for gas, oil, tire pressure, damage, etc.
    • Be familiar with any health problems of campers and staff that are transported.
    • These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

    Qualifications/Job Requirements:

    • Valid G-class Ontario Driver’s License and clean Driver’s abstract
    • Emergency First Aid or Equivalent and CPR “B”

    Compensation varies depending on age and experience but is generally based on 9 weeks at 40 hours per week at minimum wage.  All positions include free room, board, laundry and use of facilities.
