Long Trip

Greetings and Salutations all,
Before I begin, I’d just like to congratulate you on making the single best decision with regards to your son’s physical, mental, and character development: Sending him on an Ahmek long canoe trip.
My name is Conor Abrahams and I will be the Long Trip Section Director for the upcoming summer. In this capacity, although I will have overall less interaction with your son than in the younger sections, my focus will be on supporting the campers and staff in other ways. My main goals for this summer include getting every cabin group the training and equipment they need before their trip, ensuring that they get the most out of the in-camp program once they return from their trip during what may be their final years as campers, and working closely with the Head Guide and our Director team to ensure that they get any support they may need throughout their excursion.
The counselors in the section have all been staff for many years, and many have risen through the ranks and done previous long trips themselves, both as campers and as staff members. The wealth of tripping knowledge in this year’s section seems to surpass any other year I’ve experienced, and has resulted in complete, well-rounded routes planned in record time, from Kipawa all the way to to 50-Day.
Upon arriving at camp, your son will be mainly focused on preparing for his trip. Upon returning in late July or in August, he will be able to enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle of a returning long-trip camper; doing the activities of his choice, or participating in the Final Play, which is traditionally a favourite among the older campers.
Well, that’s all I have to say for now. Stay tuned for more specific correspondence from one of your son’s counselors. I look forward to seeing your son once again up at the greatest place on earth, but not as much as I look forward to seeing he and his cabin mates off on the adventure of a lifetime.
All the best,
Conor Abrahams
