Voyageur

My name is Adam Tofani and I will be the Voyageur Section Director this summer at Camp Ahmek. The summer of 2011 will be my fourth consecutive year as staff at camp. I find myself returning each summer simply because of the experience; the adventure of canoe trip, the laid back atmosphere around the campfire, the excitement of main camp activities and events, and the campers and friends to share it all with are what make a summer on canoe lake special to me. I was first introduced to the Taylor Statten Camps during September of 2007 while taking part in a two-day character education retreat organized by my high school. For the two summers after this, I had the opportunity of working as a counsellor in the Bantam and Pioneer sections. After working as the Pioneer Section Director last summer, I feel that the knowledge and experience gained will help me step into my role as the Voyageur Section Director.  In my past summers at camp, I have had the enjoyment of spending time with returning and first-time campers, and I have watched them grow to be more independent, as well as more understanding and considerate towards their cabin mates. The Voyageur counsellors and I plan to bring out these sides of our campers this summer so that they can have the best Ahmek experience possible.

My time during the off-season is spent at the University of Toronto and at my home in Scarborough. I have recently completed my second year in Mechanical Engineering and I am looking forward to a difficult yet rewarding third year to come. While on campus, I keep active by playing on the engineering hockey and ultimate frisbee teams. When I manage to find some free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, jamming on my guitar and drums with a few buddies, practicing saxophone pieces, and working on automotive projects.

I am looking forward to a fantastic summer on Canoe Lake!
