Robert Alan Derzon
Tassie McGibbon, a Wap counselor in the early 1950s, writes:
I am sending you a link to the New York Times obituary for Bob ‘Dizz’ Derzon who died in June 2009 while visiting friends in Erin, Ontario. Dizz was an Ahmek camper in the 1940s and a Wapomeo canoe trip guide in the early 50s. Girls who had Judy Russell [Languedoc] as their counselor on Senior Island will remember Dizz who was the guide on so many of their canoe trips. Here is an excerpt from an old friend, Bob ‘Sleepy’ Innes.
“I have known Dizz since we were sixteen. We met as CITs at Ahmek and it was there that the 7 dwarfs were created starting with Dizz. And there was Happy, Sleepy, Grumpy, Dopey etc. Life long friendships were established. Taylor Statten Camps were very unique, as was Algonquin Park and canoeing/tripping/riding and girls at Wap. We both had very successful careers as Wap guides.”
Dizz went on to become a hospital administrator, and pursue a very successful career in the field of health care.
