Summer 2015

Summer 2015 at TSC was a great one. We loved every minute at Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo but there are a few events that really stand out.

First of all, we had incredible weather. It is not often that a summer is consistently HOT. Summer 2015 at the Taylor Statten Camps involved sunshine filled days that were taken advantage of by many jumps in the lake. Invented as a result of this weather was Milkshake Mondays at Camp Ahmek! A all camp activity, Monday evenings included playing sports and cooling off with a vanilla, chocolate or strawberry milkshake made by our Lakeside Catering kitchen staff. They were delicious! Over on the Camp Wapomeo Island, campers and staff were able to cool off by hopping on our new paddle boards. This was a brand new activity and it was a major success.

Canoe trip is a beloved aspect of the Taylor Statten Camps. The summer of 2015 saw 68 Wapomeo trips and 62 Ahmek trips head out into the great Canadian wilderness. These impressive numbers can be attributed to TSC’s strong and adventurous campers and staff. Included in this number are two Bisco trips, one at each camp. We are so excited to see this remarkable 42 day canoe trip increase in popularity once again and we hope to see many more campers applying for next season.

We cannot forget to mention the high numbers of international campers. We love to meet new kids from all around the world! This summer we welcomed campers from Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, China, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, UAE, United Kingdom and the United States.

Another highlight of the summer of 2015 is the establishment of the Canoe Lake Games. Thanks to two of our most innovative and creative senior staff members, an Olympic style event based on all camp activities was born. Senior campers from both Ahmek and Wapomeo were placed on co-ed teams, lead by one staff member. In the first two days, each team competed in various events that earned them points. The third day of the games was centered around a decathlon, which determined the winning team. The Canoe Lake Games gave Ahmek and Wapomeo campers a chance to build teamwork and leadership skills while showing off their athletic abilities.

Although the year of 2015 is near end, the memories we made at the Taylor Statten Camps during the summer will stay with us forever. We cannot wait to see what summer 2016 has in store.
