All staff at The Taylor Statten Camps are required to have a current Emergency First Aid and CPR “B” certification upon their arrival at camp.

Section Directors

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

Job description:

Section Directors: Each age group is called a “Section” and there is a Section Director for each.  Section Directors do not take care of a cabin of their own, but rather oversee the Section as a whole, supporting the counsellors in their duties, programming activities, and planning evening activities and special events. A current Bronze Cross, First Aid and CPR and a Pleasure Craft Operators Licence (if at Wapomeo) is required.

Counsellors

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

Job description:

Counsellors:  We look for the best role models in the land to be camp counsellors at TSC. As a counsellor to campers, your impact is direct and easily life-long. We are looking for sensitive, intelligent, fun and interesting people to be counsellors.Experience paddling and canoe tripping is an asset.Each of our counsellors must have their Bronze Cross and Wilderness First Aid.

Counsellor-In-Training

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

Job description:

Counsellors In Training (C.I.T.’s) must be 17 years old by the end of the calendar year.  C.I.T.s must be keen to learn the art of being a camp counsellor, guide, and/or an activity head.  Cabin C.I.T.s shadow a counsellor and are assigned to a cabin group.  You’ll be working with campers between the ages of 7 and 12.  C.I.T.s with an interest in a particular program may spend a month shadowing the Activity Head of their choice.  C.I.T.s at both camps also have the opportunity to help lead canoe trips.  Paddling and canoeing tripping experience is an asset.  A current Bronze Cross is required for this position as well as Emergency First Aid and CPR. C.I.Ts will have the opportunity to take a Wilderness First Aid course during pre-camp if desired.

CIT spend the full two months at camp and earn an honorariumof $300.All positions include room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

Head Guide

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

We currently have two (2) openings for Head Guide.

Job Description:

The Head Guides work very closely with our Head of Operations to ensure that all canoe trips run smoothly. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining our Trip Room (aka The Trading Post), overseeing the distribution and return of all canoe trip equipment (tents, pots, pans, water purifiers, stoves, propane, canoes, etc.), management and training of all canoe trip guides, route planning, food drop logistics (for Long Trips only), maintaining and cataloging maps, etc. Essentially the Head Guides are responsible for all canoe trip related activities and will spend a lot of time with the Head of Operations to ensure that everyone has a safe and memorable summer. A strong canoe tripping background, an intimate knowledge of bush craft, and a knack for building and maintaining a positive group dynamic are a must.

A current Bronze Cross, Wilderness First Aid, and a Pleasure Craft Operator’s License are required.

Canoe Trip Guides

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

Job Description:

Guides:  The canoe trip guides are often on the go at camp, in and out on flat-water canoe trips all summer long. Guides average between 30 and 40 days on the water each summer. Guides work with counsellors and C.I.T.s to provide a safe, challenging, and memorable experience. Strong canoe tripping skills and a knack for building and maintaining a positive group dynamic are a must.  A current Bronze Cross and Wilderness First Aid are required as well as previous tripping days.  We currently have twenty (20) openings for canoe trip guides.

Trip locations vary between Algonquin Park and Temagami.

Riding Instructors and Stablehands

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

Job description:

This position involves teaching horseback riding to Ahmek and Wapomeo campers at the stables which are over at Ahmek. A fair amount of the day is spent at Ahmek, as that’s where the horses are. The Riding Instructors also help out with barn up-keep. All staff must hold current First Aid and CPR certifications.

We currently have three (3) openings for Riding Instructors and two (2) openings for Stablehands..

Reception & Hostess/Host

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

Job description:

Receptionist: Office hours at camp run from 8 in the morning until 8 at night.  There are two receptionists at Wapomeo, and two receptionists at Ahmek.  Each receptionist works a half-day, and cover for the other’s meals.  The receptionist is primarily responsible for answering the telephone, recording and passing along messages, sorting the mail and camper e-mail, helping to organize Visitor’s Days, and for keeping order in the office (physical and social).

We currently have four (4) openings for our Reception/Host/Hostess positions.

Compensation is based on position and experience.  All positions include room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

Office Helper and Driver

Camp: Ahmek

Job description:

As an Office Helper, the more you know about computers and networking, the better.  Also, it’s good for the Office Helper to enjoy filing and regaling in an office environment.  As a Driver, you will be asked to drive into Huntsville a few times a week for business-related reasons, and then whenever there is an emergency or an expected pick-up or drop-off situation.  Sometimes, The Driver goes up to Temagami.  The Driver needs to be licensed to drive in Ontario, and that license must be clear of any driving-related incidents.  The driver needs to be able to drive well and safely under pressure.  A valid G-class Ontario Driver’s License is required for this job as well as current First Aid and CPR certifications.

We currently have one (1) opening for a Office Helper and Driver.

Tuck-shop & Storehouse Co-ordinator

Camp: Ahmek

Job description:

This person runs the Tuck Shop, keeping regular store hours after meals, keeping a running inventory, and keeping track of who bought what. This includes updating the computer system therefore computer skills are an asset. You work with the Tuck Shop person at Wapomeo – good communication skills are helpful. This person is organized, motivated and enjoys working in merchandizing. Current First Aid and CPR is required.

Storehouse: This involves keeping a current inventory of all camp supplies stored in the storehouse and this also involves preparing orders for supplies as they need to be replenished.

We currently have one (1) opening for Tuck-shop/Storehouse Coordinator.

Health Care Assistant

Camp: Ahmek and Wapomeo

Job description:

We are looking for Health Care Assistants to help run the infirmaries at both Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo. You will be working closely with our camp doctor over the course of the summer and will be responsible for a variety of tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, health screenings for both campers and staff, weigh-outs and weigh-ins (before and after all canoe trips), organizing and maintaining the infirmary, equipment checks and inventory, preparation of medical kits, and assisting the camp doctor whenever possible. We are looking for responsible individuals who posses a strong sense of initiative, the ability to work well alone or with a team, and individuals who can commit to maintaining professional conduct at all times.

Students in the BScN program are welcome. Registered Nursing students preferred.

You should have experience working with children and adolescents and preferably have past camp experience.

We currently have four (4) openings for Health Care Assistant.

Archery Instructor

Camp: Ahmek

Job description:

Archery Safety is the primary concern at the archery range. Then accuracy.

We currently have one (1) opening for an Archery Instructor. This activity head must have Level One Archery Instructors or 5 years experience in Archery and must be 19 years of age or older and have First Aid and CPR.

Dishwasher

Job description:

Pottery Instructor

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo

Job description:

Pottery is extremely popular at Wapomeo and was introduced to Ahmek in 2011. The programs make up is determined by the instructor in regards of what to teach and how to teach. Experience using electric wheels and kilns is an asset for the Wapomeo position. This position requires a creative mind. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are also required.

We currently have two (2) openings for Pottery Instructor.

Head of Waterfront

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo

Job description:

The Head of Waterfront is responsible for the operation & safety of the waterfront swimming area.They will facilitate the instruction of all swimming levels as per the Royal Life Saving Society standards. Experience in a camp setting is an asset.

Qualifications: National Lifeguard Service (NLS), Red Cross/RLSSC Instructor Certificate, Emergency First Aid and CPR “C” or Aquatic Emergency CAre (AEC). Pleasure Craft Operators Licence. Must be at least 21 years of age. Examiners is an asset.

We currently have two (2) opening for Head of Waterfront, one at Wapomeo and one at Ahmek.

Senior Island Waterfront

Camp: Wapomeo

Job description:

Senior Island is a different island from Main Island at Wapomeo.  It’s where the Senior Island campers sleep and swim and do some of their canoeing lessons.  There is a separate waterfront for Senior Island and the person in this position is responsible for planning and implementing effective swim programs and safe waterfront practices including facilitating emergency water searches if necessary.  A current National Lifeguard Service  (NLS), Emergency First Aid, CPR “C” and a Life Saving Society Instructors certifications are required. Examiners is an asset as many of the courses taught are at the Bronze level and above. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older.

We currently have one (1) opening for a Senior Island Waterfront.

Assistant Waterfront

Job description:

The Assistant Waterfront is a great help to the Head of Waterfront and is active teaching swimming lessons and lifeguarding.  We currently have  two (2) opening for Assistant Head of Waterfront.

Qualifications: National Lifeguard Service (NLS), Red Cross/RLSSC Instructor Certificate, Emergency First Aid and CPR “C” or Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC). You must be at least 18 years of age. The Assistant Head of Waterfront will assume all duties of the Head of Waterfront in their absence.

Canoeing Instructor

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo

Job description:

Canoeing: The Head of Canoeing teaches canoeing lessons and organizes counsellors who teach canoeing lessons.  The Head of Canoeing needs to be able to teach the highest level of paddling skills at camp.  The Head of Canoeing also has the responsibility of keeping track of the number and condition, or our large and gorgeous fleet of cedar-canvas, Kevlar-canvas, and straight Kevlar canoes.

Qualifications: The Head of Canoeing must be at least 18 years of age, hold a current Bronze Cross as well as current CPR and First Aid certification. ORCKA Level 3 flatwater or equivalent experience is required.

We currently have one (2) openings for a Canoeing Instructor.

Sailing Instructor

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo

Job description:

The Head of Sailing organizes sailing lessons and is also available when campers and staff choose to go sailing in their free time. The Head of Sailing must be comfortable rigging, operating, and instructing with JY 15s and Laser IIs in various intensities of wind. The Head of Sailing at Wapomeo and Ahmek collaborate to organize and run the Roper Dayment Sailing Race in July and The Wilson in August. A current Bronze Cross, First Aid and CPR and a Pleasure Craft Operators License is required for this position. A CANSail 4 certification (Previously the Canadian Yachting Association Bronze Sail V), or the equivalent, is preferred. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Boat & Barge Driver

Camp: Wapomeo

Job description:

As Wapomeo is located on two islands  transportation is a major part of our summer. We rely on boats and 30 or 40 foot long barges to move campers and staff between the islands and the mainland. The Boat/Barge driver must be punctual by nature.  It also helps if you already know how to tie knots, dock boats, and work motors. You must hold a current Pleasure Craft Operators Licence as well as First Aid and CPR certifications.

We currently have two (2) openings for Boat & Barge Driver.

Camp Craft Instructor

Job description:

Camp Craft is the bridge between our in-camp program and out of camp canoe tripping. The focus is on bush craft skills such as orienteering, map reading, fire starting, fire by friction, and plant/wildlife identification. Whoever heads-up Camp Craft needs to be creative, flexible and have a lot of initiative. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are required.

We have one (2) openings for Camp Craft Instructors.

High Ropes Challenge Course Personnel

Camp: Ahmek

Job description:

High Ropes Challenge Course personnel must have the following minimum qualifications:
• Participated in a professional instructors training course for challenge ropes course adventure programming, or have equivalent on-the-job training
• At least one summer of experience working in a challenge ropes course adventure program with youth
• Demonstrated competencies in challenge ropes course skills such as technical, facilitation, program planning, safety management and rescue
• First Aid and CPR “B”
• Challenge Course Practitioner Level II or equivalent training and certification.

All Challenge Ropes Course staff must adhere to the Technical Training Standards of the Association for Challenge Course Technology (A.C.C.T)

Yoga Instructor

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo

Job description:

There are several beautiful places to practice yoga around camp and we’re looking for an instructor. Balance, relaxation and breath control are big components of our canoe trips and having the ability to work on these skills during Yoga yields excellent results. This person should be comfortable teaching a wide age range (7-16) and able to target lessons for each group. Yoga mats are provided and the location for instructing is very versatile.

We currently have one (2) openings for a Yoga Instructor.

Dining Hall Supervisor

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo

Job description:

We are looking for Dining Hall Supervisors to help run the dining halls at both Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo. You will be working closely with other camp staff (Kitchen personnel, Section Directors, Counsellors, CITs, and Dishwashers) over the course of the summer and will be responsible for a variety of tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting of tables before each meal, cleanup after each meal, assisting the dishwashers in the dish-room (if necessary) , coordinating meal setup with kitchen staff (condiments and serving utensils), and helping with staff/camper meal pickup and dish drop-off during meals. Essentially you are the go-to person for all things dining hall related. We are looking for responsible individuals who posses a strong sense of initiative, the ability to work well alone or with a team, and individuals who can commit to maintaining professional conduct at all times.

You should have experience working with children and adolescents and preferably have past camp experience.

Arts & Crafts Instructor

Job description:

Arts and Crafts can range from bracelet making to tie-dye to wood working to set construction for skit nights, The Wap Review theatrical performance, and Final Play at the end of August. Whoever heads-up Arts and Crafts needs to be creative, flexible and have a lot of initiative. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are required.

We have one (2) openings for Arts & Crafts Instructors.

Drama & Music Instructors

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo
Job description:
This is mainly a Drama Instructor position, but it inevitably involves lots of music and dancing!  We’re talking about ice-breaking games, improvisation, show nights, skit nights, monthly plays like the Wap Review in July and The Final Play in August.  You must be encouraging and it helps to be spontaneous, creative and inventive in this job.

We currently have one (2) openings for Drama & Music Instructors. Applicants must hold current First Aid and CPR certifications.

Night Watch

Camp: Ahmek & Wapomeo

Job description:

As Night Watch, your principle duty is to safeguard the campers and the camp site from midnight until 7:00am.  This includes making rounds and investigating nightly activity. Current First Aid and CPR certifications as well as a Pleasure Craft Operators License (if employed at Wapomeo) is required.

We currently have two (2) openings for a Nightwatch person.

Compensation is based on a 7 hour day, 6 days a week at minimum wage.  The nightwatch positions include room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

Tennis Instructor

Camp: Ahmek

Job description:

The tennis instructor must be adept at the game of tennis.  The tennis instructor must be able to deliver instruction on a) the rules of the game, b) specific skills and drills, and c) proper etiquette on the court.   The tennis courts are used by both Ahmek and Wapomeo campers, although the site for this program is at Ahmek and the Tennis Instructor lives at Ahmek. Must have a current First Aid and CPR “B” certification.

We currently have one (1) opening for a Tennis Instructor.

Weaving & Textiles Instructor

Camp: Wapomeo

Job description:

Do you like textiles?  The weaving program was started in the 1920’s at Camp Wapomeo for girls and has continued since then. Camp Wapomeo has three larger floor looms and two smaller floor looms. We do have a variety of other equipment which has been donated over the years including a number of hand looms. The programs make up is determined by the instructor in regards of what to teach and how to teach.  Knitting and crochet are also a possibility here; felt up a storm! Current First Aid and CPR “B” certification is required.

We currently have one (1) opening for Weaving  Instructor.
