What’s happening at camp!
As we venture into the month of October and summer camp memories keep us warm as the days get colder, we are sure you have been thinking about what is happening at camp!
Though camp is much quieter, it is not silent. Algonquin Park is putting it’s fall coat on and it’s magnificent colours have canoe trippers visiting Canoe Lake and the surrounding areas. With just a week until Thanksgiving, our Maintenance and Fall Crew staff are working hard for the final stretch of closing up Camp Wapomeo and Camp Ahmek.
You may be wondering… what has been going on at camp these days? Well, each year, Camp Ahmek stays open to guests for the month of September to welcome families, corporate retreats, weddings and other special events.
Following September Camp, Camp Ahmek hosted 3 special events.
First, we welcomed back Connected Lab, a tech company situated in Toronto. Their trip up to camp is their way of ‘disconnecting’ from their much connected world. Connected Lab has definitely found their escape from the city as this marks their 4th year enjoying the beautiful Canoe Lake escarpment, TSC waterfront activities and indulging in the rustic camp feel.
The last weekend of summer and the first week of fall were ringing with the sound of wedding bells!
Summer concluded perfectly as a TSC alumni couple, Brett and Grace, warmly returned to their summer home to tie the knot on Canoe Lake. The wedding was a perfect end to the season of summer and gave the sunny shores an extra magical feel. TSC was also lucky to have such a beautiful opening to fall as another wonderful couple, Jill and Matt, also tied the knot on Canoe Lake alongside their friends and family. We have a feeling cupid might have stuck around for a canoe trip after these two fantastic weekends.
With all events completed, Camp is in it’s final stages of becoming winter ready!
Fall crew includes a few summer staff, eager to enjoy some extra time on Canoe Lake giving a helping hand to the TSC maintenance team. When campers head home, summer camp is just as it was when they arrived but, it doesn’t look like this all year round! As Canadian winter weather is harsh, Camp Wapomeo and Camp Ahmek must hibernate until the next summer season but, they need help to prepare.
This is a big job and wouldn’t be possible without the incredible staff that stick around. Canoes are water-tested, fixed and painted; (that’s close to 200 canoes!!). Cabins are cleaned, repaired and locked up. Sailboats are pulled out of the water and safely stored. Tents are taken down from frames, swim docks are moved into a safe winter spot, water trampolines are deflated and put away, new buildings are built, some buildings move and some come down. All this and more is done by TSC’s Maintenance and Fall Crew staff! Without these awesome individuals each summer would not be possible.
Thank you to Dave Standfield and our maintenance team who make sure Camp is ready for each summer for all to enjoy! Thank you to Hugh, Dorcas, Linnea, Gaby and Inge for their hard work during these past 5 weeks. Also, a big thank you to all that helped during the September events.
