A 50 day canoe trip is unique in the summer camp community and is one of the longest canoe trips offered in Ontario.
50 days in the Canadian wilderness has been deemed as the canoe trip of a lifetime, an experience that is hard to put into words. The 50 day canoe trip is offered to both Ahmek and Wapomeo campers, with priority going to those who have completed an Ishpatina, Quetico or Bisco trip the previous summer.
Each 50 day canoe trip has it’s own unique route through the Ontario back country. As each trip travels through Northern Ontario, campers and staff spend many days interacting with only each other as they canoe and portage through remote locations.
The final segment finds the cabin group making their way back to Canoe Lake, usually through where it all began – Algonquin Park. After exploring areas such as Biscotasing, Temagami, Kipawa, Mississagi, Temiskaming, Ottawa River, Lake Superior, Killarney, French River and many more, the Park brings with it a sense of emotion as this incredible journey comes to an end.
On day 50, cabin groups return to camp to the sound of loud cheers and big congratulations from campers and staff of all ages. Ahmek and Wapomeo campers watch with a sense of wonderment, dreaming of a 50 day of their own and those who have already had the chance, find their cabinmates and reminisce. Once you complete a 50 Day, the memories truly stick with you forever!
The feel of embarking on and completing a 50 day canoe trip is one that may be truly impossible to perfectly put into words. But they do say a picture is worth a thousand words, so we’ve started with that!
We are happy to announce with the help of Mike Last (our professional camp photographer) and some incredible Camp Wapomeo campers and staff, we will be posting the much-anticipated project “50 Days Stronger”, in the coming weeks. This project hopes to portray just how special, magical and unique this adventure is.
Here’s a sneak peak into…
“Don’t look for a moment where you realize that 50 day is special, remember every moment, for it is only after you realize how lucky you were to experience it.” Camp Wapomeo 50 Day camper (2018)
